Jesus taught us that He is the bread of life, come down out of heaven. He even said that if we do not eat His flesh and drink His blood, that we have no life in ourselves. What does He mean by this? This is what made so many people stop following Him. Even today it is hard to understand if we do not remember that He is talking about spiritual life. Some have taught that He was talking about communion, as though it was the act of taking communion together that gave us spiritual life. But Jesus was not talking about symbolicly eating His flesh. He meant that by the giving of His own flesh and blood for our sin, we could have eternal life. We must claim His sacrifice and identify with it. It is in His death that we have life. If we do not draw our life from Him, and totally depend on Him for life, we have no life. If we do not eat and drink from Him, we starve to death.

We never put anything into our mouths to eat unless we believe it to be good food, helpful to us. We trust that the food is going to be good for us and that it will strengthen us. In the same way, we eat and drink of Jesus because we admit our need for Him and our realization that He will satisfy our need. Unless we do this, we have no spiritual life. We are dead. We eat of Him, and we live by Him forever.

Jesus promises to satisfy our needs, not just now, but forever. Make sure you are getting your food from the right pantry!
