Living Stone

During the Festival, large lamps were lit at the court of the women each night. All the congregation, including the dignitaries, would dance around the lights in celebration. It is said that these lights could be seen throughout the city. The celebration commemorated the pillar of fire which led the children of Israel through the wilderness each night. When Jesus said that He was the light of the world, He was claiming to be the pillar of fire for Israel to follow. Just as the children of Israel followed the light of the pillar of fire through the darkness of the desert, those who would believe in Jesus would follow Him through the darkness of the sinful world. Jesus said that if they would follow Him, they would never have to walk without light in the darkness, but would have the light of life.

How is that being fulfilled in your life today? If you believe in the Lord and follow where He leads, you will find that you are never walking in darkness. Thought the world around you is sinful, hopeless and empty, He will always give direction, hope and fulfillment. The key is found in following Him. If you walk away from His light in another direction, you leave your source of light and direction. It is important that we follow the path where the light takes us.
